Town and Country Iris Society

Town and Country Iris Society is a non-profit organization to promote interest in and general education about Irises, a beautiful and hardy perennial. The club was established in 1961. The Society’s members are diverse: from teenagers to retirees, from those with no garden facilities to iris hobbyists to commercial growers and hybridizers. All are united by a love for Irises in their many varieties and colors. Everyone is welcome to share our love of irises and help each other in growing them.

We have members in Lincoln, Spokane, Stevens, and Pend Oreille Counties as well as Kootenai County, ID. The club has provided rhizomes to an elementary school in Hayden, ID for their very successful school garden (teacher is the daughter of active members). One of our members with a commercial garden provides 5 newer iris from the bed he grows for the club to each new member, along with advice on iris cultivation in this Zone 4 and 5 micro-climate. We provide each new member with a handbook of club activities, officers, iris information, member contact information, and AIS and section web site addresses. Meeting Agendas and Minutes are provided by email or postal mail each month. Several members are willing to share iris, particularly SDB with any new members for the asking. Active members are eligible for earned iris each year—the club provides $40 per person for purchase of iris from selected commercial sources, and active members are treated to a February luncheon paid for by the club. The Sort before the annual Rhizome Sale allows members to obtain quality rhizomes prior to being offered to the general public. Our experienced gardeners are more than willing to share gardening tips in all areas.

We are a very friendly group, and we have great refreshments provided by club members at each club meeting. We strive to keep the business meetings short and the programs fast paced. We usually meet at the Spokane Valley Library, 12004 E. Main, Spokane, Valley, WA on the first Friday of March, April, May, June, July, September, October, November at 7 PM. Please contact President to check any date you may wish to attend as we sometimes must meet at a different library due to activities at Spokane Valley Library. Often our July meeting is a field trip to local gardens. Our February and December meetings are held at local restaurants. Call President for information..
